Mieke is seven

Happy birthday darling girl. I am always in awe of you. Your spark, your intelligence. Your imagination, your tender nurturing heart and genuine concern for the welfare of all living things.
Family will be here to celebrate on Friday, a pool party with school friends on Saturday. Special mother/daughter time including ears pierced on Sunday. Ears pierced? Am I crazy? I might be, but I'm committed now!
She said to me this morning "I do feel older today".

Random who made what questions

On the way home from swimming:
Mieke: Did God make trees?
Me: Some people believe that, yes
Mieke: Did God make birds
Me: (same as above)
Mieke: Who made roads?
Me: People make roads
Mieke: Does God make houses?
Me: No, people build houses
Mieke: How?
Me: With bricks or wood usually
Mieke: Did God make bricks?
Me: No people make bricks
Mieke: How?
Me: (after trying half fabricated explanation...pause...) I think that is a great question to ask Dad.

By this point I'm over trying to provide worthy answers! Love the questions though.

How can an adult still hurt itself?

Was the question Mieke asked me this morning after learning that Matt tore his achilles tendon last night (he has been playing basketball again for about a month - yeah for sure, I said, playing is a great idea, the exercise will do you good). According to Mieke, being grown up should mean we are free from injury and she can't comprehend how on earth he did that, when she falls all the time and only ever has a scrape requiring a Shrek bandaid and a kiss. Quinn fell backwards off our couch he didn't even get hurt. Dad's heel is going to need a lot of kissing. And some surgery.
